PFESP and the Ministry of Finance sign a memorandum of understanding of $8 million to implement "Cash-For-Work Project" in the West Bank

Tuesday, the Minister of Labor and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Palestinian Fund for Employment and Social Protection for Workers, Dr. Nasri Abu Jaish, and the Minister of Finance, Dr. Shukri Bishara, signed a memorandum of understanding to implement the "Cash-For-Work Project" in the West Bank. It is with a budget of (8 million dollars). This is as part of the emergency response to social protection project as a result of the emerging Corona Pandemic (COVID-19). It is funded by the World Bank.

The signing ceremony took place at the headquarters of the Ministry of Finance in Ramallah, in the presence of the General Director of International Relations and Projects at the Ministry of Finance, Laila Agrib, the Executive Director of the PFESP, Mr. Mahdi Hamdan, and a number of managers from both sides.

Bishara said in a speech, that the project aims at providing short-term temporary job opportunities by providing sub-grants to local and selected non-governmental organizations. This is in order to employ the target groups of job seekers. Especially those who have lost their jobs and work due to the spread of the Corona Pandemic.

For his part, Minister Abu Jaish explained that the project falls within the emergency response plan announced by the Ministry of Labor. He indicated that the project is a continuation of a series of interventions implemented by the Ministry of Labor and the PFESP since the beginning of the pandemic. This is to help the affected groups and sectors in all governorates of the country. He pointed out that the project will provide temporary employment opportunities for a period of six months for about 3060 beneficiaries (at least 50% of them are females).

At the end of the ceremony, the two ministers thanked the World Bank for its support to the Palestinian people. Especially in light of the difficult economic conditions during the Corona Pandemic.
