The Minister Abu Shahla announces the launch of a project costing 12 million shekels to construct 240 greenhouses in the West Bank and Gaza

His Excellency Dr. Mamoun Abu Shahla, Minister of Labor, Chairman of PFESP, announced the start of implementing a project to establish 240 greenhouses in all governorates of the country. It is in cooperation between PFESP, the Ministry of Labor, and the Cooperative Work Authority at a cost of 12 million shekels.

Abu Shahla explained that the project is fully funded by the Consensus Government. It will continue for a year, and it will target the youth working in the agricultural and cooperative sector.

This came during a meeting held by His Excellency Minister Abu Shahla with representatives of the Agricultural Union at the Authority seat, on Monday morning. It is to see the conditions of the agricultural union and discuss ways to develop the agricultural sector. It was in the presence of its chairperson, Yousef Al-Turk, the President of the Agricultural Union Jamal Al-Nimer, and a number of board members of the Agricultural Union. In addition to the staff of the Authority.

Abu Shahla began the meeting by emphasizing the agricultural union’s application of the principles of cooperative work through cooperative societies in order to be an economic lever. Also, he stressed the importance of the role of women in it.

He said that the project will contribute to the employment of the Palestinian youth workforce. It will add to their experiences in the field of economic marketing of agricultural products through cooperative work.

He emphasized that the marketing of greenhouse products will be at lower costs for farmers and a better price for the consumer.

In the same context, Minister Abu Shahla stressed the importance of the advancement of the agricultural union itself. It is through the creation of an infrastructure that revives agricultural cooperative societies in its work and that will be a source of income for the agricultural union. This includes the establishment of a shop for agricultural equipment, a packaging factory, and an olive products factory. He called for an effective role for women in agricultural cooperative societies.

He asked the Union to not repeat its mistakes in the past years, and to look forward to cooperative work with a broad and constructive horizon.
