During a visit to Cairo: A delegation from PFESP and the Ministry of Labor discuss with international, Arab and Egyptian institutions ways of enhancing the Palestinian employment sector

The meetings that the delegation held during its four-day visit focused on benefiting from these institutions in supporting the employment sector in Palestine and opening Arab markets to the Palestinian labor. In addition to developing joint Arab action and supporting the micro and micro-credit sector in Palestine.

The delegation included the Executive Director of PFESP Mahdi Hamdan, his deputy Eng. Muhammad Abu Zuaiter, and the Director General of Employment of the Ministry of Labor, Rami Mahdawi.

The delegation began their visit to Egypt with a meeting with the director of the Arab Labor Organization, Fayez Al-Mutairi. They discussed ways to end the suffering of Palestinian workers who work in the Israeli labor market and collect their accumulated rights for 50 years. The Israeli occupation authorities refuse to release or even disclose, which is estimated at 9 billion dollars.

The second round of the delegation’s visit, the most important, to the Egyptian Enterprise Development Body and meeting those responsible for it. It was headed by Tariq Munir Shash, Vice-President of the agency and General Supervisor for Planning and International Cooperation, Dr. Nevin Badr El Din, head of the Central Sector for Egyptian Microfinance, Dr. Raafat Shehata, head of the Central Sector for Non-Financial Services, and Mr. Amr Elwi is the Director of  micro-financing projects at the Egyptian Ministry of Manpower, and Mr. Mohamed Abdul Rahman, head of the employment sector and labor market information.

The delegation briefed on the work of these institutions, expressing their strong desire to benefit from the Egyptian experience in establishing micro enterprises and lending programs. Especially as PFESP had made a long way in implementing such projects.

Hamdan conveyed the greetings of His Excellency the Minister of Labor, Chairman of PFESP, Dr. Mamoun Abu Shahla, to the Egyptian officials.

Hamdan was confident in benefiting from the long Egyptian experience in this regard.

For his part, Mahdawi reviewed the work of the employment department in the Ministry of Labor and its great efforts in providing job opportunities and encouraging the young generation and graduates to go to establish small enterprises.

Mahdawi stressed the depth of Egyptian-Palestinian relations at all levels and the support that Egypt provides. It is represented by His Excellency President Abdul Fattah Al-Sisi, the government, the General Intelligence Service, and the Egyptian people in general for the Palestinian cause.

The delegation also discussed ways of joint cooperation with the representative of the United Nations Development Program in Egypt, Richard Dictus, who expressed his readiness to cooperate.

Abu Zuaiter reviewed the strong relationship between PFESP and the United Nations Program in Palestine and the Gaza Strip in particular. He noted that coordination and exchange visits were never interrupted.

The delegation also met with Ambassador Said Abu Ali, Assistant Secretary General of the League of Arab States for Palestine and the occupied Arab territories sector. They discussed with him the sensationalism of the high unemployment crisis in Palestine on the Arab arena and work to open Arab markets to Palestinian workers.

The delegation also discussed with Dr. Tareq Al-Nabulsi, Director of Development and Social Policies in the Social Sector in the League of Arab States, the necessity of sending a delegation from the Arab League to Palestine. It is to look closely at the conditions of Palestinian workers and enlist financial support for them.

Hamdan pointed to his request from Dr. Al-Nabulsi to bring the unemployment problem in Palestine on the list of the priorities of the social sector in the League of Arab States.
